How Long Does It Take to Learn How to Streetboard?

Asking how long it takes to learn streetboarding is like asking, “How long is a piece of string?” It truly depends on various factors, especially whether you have prior board riding experience. For instance, if you’ve ridden JMK Free Skates, a surfskate, a ripstick, or anything with a similar movement, you’ll find streetboarding easier to pick up. It’s worth noting that many of these came after the original Snakeboards, the brand that pioneered streetboarding.

Coordination Is Key

Streetboarding is all about coordination. And before you worry, streetboarding is a fantastic way to build that coordination. Some are naturals on the dance floor from birth, while others need a bit more time. The good news? Streetboarding involves mastering just two simple movements: the open position and the closed position.

Progressing Quickly

We here at Red Pen have been teaching people since 1994. With recent innovations like surfskate-style front trucks, picking up the initial movements is much easier. We’ve seen people of all ages start rolling in no time—sometimes within an hour. The Snakeboard Comp is the perfect board to LEARN FAST.

If you are all in and looking to slay only weeks away

A Four-Week Journey

As a rule of thumb, expect to fully strap in and slay in about four weeks:

Week 1: Learning the basics. The first few sessions might feel slow, but once it clicks, it’s like riding a bike.

Week 2: Building balance and understanding movement.

Week 3: Practice, practice, practice.

Week 4: Ready to strap in and slay!

Once you’re confident, the tricks will come fast, and you’ll soon find yourself exploring bigger ramps and flying high.
